Introduction
When Helen reached out for me to capture the founder’s story for her fragrance company, I instantly fell in love with the company’s visuals. ROAN Fragrances stands for Roots of a Nomad.
Here is how Helen describes ROAN Fragrances:
“Transportive tea fragrances crafted for the wanderer within. Since the beginning, communities around the world have created tea and infusions with the bounty of their land and shared these wonderful creations with each other. So leveraging these diverse notes in all of our fragrance compositions allows us to uniquely storytell all the beautiful places where tea is grown, brewed and loved.”
Our Process
During our brand strategy phase, Helen wrote: “We really focus on developing the story behind each fragrance - where does each scent take us conceptually, what emotion do we want to evoke, what tea helps tell this story. But we also embrace personal interpretation. Every fragrance has names that can be interpreted in multiple ways - we designed them this way because it’s ultimately the user's connection and interpretation that gives each scent its purpose and meaning. I am a passionate traveler, and I always feel the places, the people, and the cultures I was privileged to encounter ultimately shaped who I am and who I will become. I wanted to capture through the brand name the spirit of the deep bonds we feel when we allow ourselves to wander and connect with the world.”
For us, we felt that light and airy photographs would be best. We wanted the photographs to lend themselves to the timeless and wanderer undertones of the company’s brand.

Photography Results
Helen was able to launch her website with an About page that clearly defined who she was and her mission in creating the company. Potential clients were able to put a face to the name and this helped personalize her product-based brand.
