Introduction

I loved doing this shoot with Mind Matters with Div. Divya is a psychotherapist and mental health educator and she focuses on issues like anxiety, perfectionism, and burnout. As soon as we had our coffee chat and I heard about how passionate she is about being there for people of color and children of immigrants, I knew that our missions aligned.

Her reasoning for entering the mental health space as a South Asian woman was the same reasoning I had when I entered my teaching profession, and now my photography profession. I connect with those who feel a deep need to occupy a space where they are the minority… where others may not look like them and so that gives them the extra reason to be there, to welcome others into that space and remind them they have every reason to exist and take up space.
